This unit was all about the past tenses. The past simple is used for a past action when the time is given or when the time is asked about. One other usage is when the action clearly took place at a definite time even though this time is not mentioned. There are a lot of irregular verbs that need to be memorized. The past continuous is used for interrupted past actions. It can express an action, which began before that time and probably continued after it. Also we use this tense for descriptions. The past perfect is the past in the past. It describes actions that occurred before other actions in the past. The usage of the past perfect continuous is to talk about longer actions or situations in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about.
