Any of the units that involve teaching theory make me feel better about the current lessons I teach to my Civics and Economics students. I definitely fall into a boomerang pattern more often with my lessons. We start off with engagement questions and usually a communication group style question. This is partially because this particular content is vocabulary heavy. I usually ask students to choose five words and then draw what the word looks like. The challenge with this is students are not allowed to use words. We then play pictionary with them. This helps build analytic and problem solving skills, while getting students to also demonstrate understanding by explaining and teaching others. We then jump into new content and build on those foundations that we reviewed from the day before. I would also like to include other content areas to seek and find words that students are using to help reinforce concepts in both classes.
