In the Unit 4 – ‘Teaching New Language’ I learned many important things related to teaching vocabulary, grammar and function. Through this Unit, I could understand that whatever the level of the class, there are four things that students need to do with new language: 1) be exposed to it. 2) understand its meaning. 3) understand how it’s constructed, and lastly 4) Be able to practice and produce it. I also learned that whilst there is a general consensus about which grammatical structures should be taught first at which levels, the same is not true of vocabulary, but even though, there are some criterias to consider when selecting vocabulary, such as a) appropriacy to the students. B) appropriacy to the task c) frequency and coverage. D) teachability. Another very important part of the unit was the Task Sheet, in the last 3 (three) tasks I had to plan different kinds of classes, more specifically I had to plan a straight line ESA lesson to cover vocabulary connected with the topic of food, a boomerang ESA lesson for present continuous tense and a patchwork ESA lesson for the function of checking into a hotel. It was a great opportunity for me to practice the knowledge acquired in this unit as well as in the units before it.
