In teaching vocabulary, (basic for elementary) there are factors to consider such as appropriacy to the students whereas the word should be child friendly example is the word 'eat' is more appropriate than teaching 'gobble'. Appropriacy to the task example is teaching 'eat' versus 'consumed', both words can be used in the situation but the task may vary. Frequency and coverage this may depend on the syllabus that we use. The words that we should select are the ones that may appear or be used in the succeeding chapters. Next is the teachability, we may avoid abstract words and try to explain them, instead we should choose the words that are easily understood and can be conveyed thru gestures.
