I have learnt from this unit that there are four past tenses. Simple past, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous. There are such similarities in their usage and form. We use them to talk about things that started and ended in the past or to talk about things that started in the past and continue to the present. Simple past tense is used for the actions ended in a definite time. Past continuous tense is used for the actions that began in the past and is still going on at the time of speaking. Past perfect tense refers to an event which happened before another in the past. And past perfect continuous tense is used for actions that started in the past and continued up to another action. It can be expected for a student to confuse their form each other. Thats why the teacher should pay attention to potential mistakes/errors. To prevent them, he/she should benefit from various activate stage ideas.
