The unit “Parts of speech” depicts brief and general information about the parts of speech of the English language and usage peculiarities. Clearly shown that each sentence has its structure and each word has its own function in the sentence, like subject, predicate, object, adverbial modifiers, etc. Each unit of the sentence is represented by a definite part of speech, like noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, preposition and conjunction. Also there are three types of articles – definite, indefinite and zero article. All this information helps to build the structure of the language and is needed to explain students how particular units of the English language are formed (like word combinations, simple and compound sentences).
