In this unit, I learned about the parts of speech in the English language. There are many types of nouns. One type of noun is the collection known, such as the word "family." Nouns can also be countable, able to be counted, or uncountable, not able to be counted. A countable noun is "dog" and an uncountable noun is "music." Adjectives are used to describe nouns. For example, a car can be "clean" or "dirty," both of which are adjectives describing the car. The superlative form of an adjective has the -est ending. The indefinite articles are general, and contain "a" and "an." Definite articles are more specific and contain "the." Verbs can be either transitive or intransitive. Transitive verbs are verbs that are directly followed by an object. An intransitive verb is the opposite, the verb cannot be followed by an object. Adverbs usually contain the ending -ly, such as in the word "slowly." A gerund is the -ing form of a verb that is used as a noun.
