For this unit, I found the ESA variations extremely helpful. I was familiar with the different approaches and theories regarding instructional theories/pedagogical methods (grammar-translation, lexical approach, etc...); however, the detailed lesson-plan breakdowns regarding "Engage, Study, Activate" are essential and much more accessible than previous lesson-plan cycles I've observed (Hunter's Model, for example). An energetic warm-up is essential to engaging the class throughout the entire lesson. Furthermore, I am definitely going to be more mindful about the mistakes my students make as opposed to their errors. I typically promote a nurturing, encouraging classroom environment. However, I will now refrain from being as quick to point out errors, and, instead, look for ways that students might correct themselves.
