I learned a lot from this unit. In the brief time I have been teaching English as a second language, I feel like I have already been using the ESA methodology to help my students enhance their learning. This lesson focuses on obviously theories, methods and techniques of teaching to better aid the students in their learning and understanding of the language. It goes over various techniques such as grammar-translation, audio-lingalism, PPP, etc. and provides the pros and cons to each strategy/technique. From there the section takes an in depth look at the most practical method of teaching language (ESA), the different way in which you can use the engage, study, and active methodology, and what activities or aspects of learning should be discussed or developed in each stage. For example, in the engage stage the focus is placed on warming the students up for the day and getting them using the English language where as in the study phase you are introducing new vocabulary, technology, etc. and focusing on new learning. All in all, I really enjoyed this section and look forward to experimenting with the various styles of ESA in my future teaching sessions.
