This unit provides an excellent overview of how to manage a classroom, covering many basic points that are helpful to new and experienced teachers. The unit shows how just changing a detail can change how much the students are learning and whether or not they are happy with their class. The physical arrangement of the classroom is a good example. If students are allowed to work in pairs and not feel they are being put on the spot for answers, they are likely to enjoy their class time. If students are feeling confident, interacting with their classmates and teacher, and feel that they are making progress in learning English, they will be much more likely to come to each class and be open to learning English. I learned several tips from the unit and one that I had never heard before was when asking questions, to state the question and then add the name of the student that you are addressing so that the entire class will think about the question. The information about discipline was very useful and a good reminder to try to understand why discipline problems are occurring and how to address them. This was a very informative an useful unit.
