Unit 5 focuses on managing classes verbally and nonverbally. Nonverbally, things like eye contact, gestures, setting up a room differently, and choosing how to group students are all effective. Verbally, stuff like using a student's name (properly), vocal control, and managing student talk time versus teacher talk time help keep a class interested and engaged. I didn't realize how effective nonverbal actions, such as being seated, standing in the middle of a room, or eye contact, can effect classroom behaviors. I'll be sure to pay close attention to how I present myself as a teacher in a classroom.
