It seems to me that it is of great benefit to be aware of the local uses and customs, western manners may be wholly inappropriate for other cultures and vice versa. Is a good idea to remind local students of this fact as an ice breaking activity, to avoid unnecessary tensions and, if needed later, for ease of de-confliction. This can be more effectively conveyed with some engage activity like some easy going and playful international role-play. It is of the utmost importance to remember everybody's names, and be aware of nationality frictions. A good idea to speed up learning and match up everybody’s ability up to the required standard is to task, (when possible and suitable) the more advanced students to help those who are below on the learning curve.
