My biggest takeaways from this unit would most likely be the ways and advantages to reducing teacher talk time, when to group students up to encourage student talk time and the different ways to do so, and also when it is appropriate to stand in the front of the class in a dominant position and when it would be more prudent to sit down and take a more relaxed approach to the class. As a relatively new teacher, I always had that doubt/question as to when and how much time I should be spending standing in the front of the class and when I should remain seated so I really enjoyed that section and learned a lot form it. Also, the effectiveness and appropriate timing for individual, pair, and group work will help me going forward with how I conduct and prepare for my classes. Overall, as the unit is titled, this gave me a better understanding of how to manage a class and gave me peace at the same time knowing that it is possible to be a great teacher without necessarily 'knowing' how to teach or having extensive experience teaching. Great unit.
