This unit tackles managing the classroom which is nothing we get access to with law paragraphs. Having read through this very unit, one understands that the problem is far from new. One meets up with the fact that teachers need to question, reflect more on, and learn to evaluate the leadership style. One essential point I stopped at was that collegial exchange of feedback regarding the classroom is useful and helpful. As one of many teachers, I find it difficult and embarrassing, but it is something I have to get used to. I learned as well that teachers should be leaders, both concerning the students' knowledge development and their well-being. The students need a leading teacher with excellent subject knowledge and commitment. Moreover, rules, frameworks, and rituals are necessary in school; young people need routines and structure to feel secure. Young people both like and need reliable structures. If the teacher is diffuse and never has any rules or rituals during the lesson, it will be boring for the students. I may relate the matter to the influential Russian developmental psychologist Lev Vygotsky formulated in his book "Thinking and Language" that a child is born into chaos and immediately begins to structure the world from its perspective. But the child needs help to do this based on what is acceptable according to the norms of society. Children need and want structure but are unable to create an order that is positive for everyone on their own. Likewise, students want to have a job but need help in structuring frames to guarantee this. The goal should be that the students have self-control enough to take responsibility for working hours in the classroom, but that it is something that they can learn with the help of the teacher only afterward. The teacher must guarantee that every student feels safe to take intellectual risks. When the teacher does not set clear frames, it becomes easy for subgroups to take over and create an uncertain climate, which in the long run can lead to harassment and bullying. From having been regulated and highly hierarchical, the current school has in recent decades developed into a goal-driven activity with more significant elements of student influence. It has, of course, changed the role of the teacher. It is hence bringing us back to the introductory unit "Learners and Teachers."
