English has become one of the most globally used languages around the world than can be typically used during travel, business, internationals schools, ant etc. Although English is not the most spoken language in the world, it is the official language in a variety of countries across the globe. Therefore, it has become an important task to teach English in Non-English countries from the beginning of elementary school for some individuals. Therefore, I believe that students need constant reassurement and encouragement to continue learning English as a second language throughout their journeys as it is essential for their success and motivation. Another way to encourage ESL students would be to teach them the basic principles in second language acquisition. For example, it is commonly believed that having a huge vocabulary at disposal is the most essential part in learning a language. When in reality, practice and building on current knowledge like sentence structure and pronunciation are some of the major keys to language acquisitions. Therefore, by teaching ESL students these basic to learning the English language this will work towards building their confidence and essentially encouraging them in their language learning journeys. One way of many ways to encourage English as a Second Language (ESL) learners would be to practice fun and simple dialogue. In this dialogue I would plan to break students up into groups of three to practice and possibly preforms dialogues in front of the class to build their confidence with speaking. In practicing dialogue, this will reaffirm the information the students have learned and encourage the students to go beyond their current knowledge and delve into their previous learned knowledge. Thus encouraging the ESL students to build on their overall skills In addition, setting realistic and tangible goals early in the process for ESL students reach is very essential in the process of encouraging students. From previous experiences I have had teaching students, when students reached goals and expectations that were set, the students are always motivated to learn more and build on their current knowledge. Without these realist goals, the students will constantly struggle, be stressed, and find learning English very difficult when it should not be that way. I look forward to encouraging students by setting realistic goals that I know they will be able to achieve and build upon. Then there are also additional ways to encourage ESL students to speak English beyond the classroom setting. I believe creating in-class strategies that translate effectively to outside practice would work to efficiently encourage students beyond the classroom setting. For example, teaching students how to read the messages on English message boards would build the students communication skills outside of the class and encourage them to learn more on how to read additional post in English. I plan to create an environment where students feel comfortable with making mistakes. I truly believe that in order for students to get better in a language then mistakes must be made to learn from them. In an environment where students feel comfortable in making mistakes will effectively encourage them to continue learning the language.
