In the world that we live in, the English language has become the most talked and the most used language globally. Whether it’s a native language or a second language, nobody can deny the importance and versatility of the English language. In many countries around the world the English language is being taught to kids once they are able to speak or enroll in schools. The English language is after all used in possibly every aspect in our lives; for example, in any country around the world most if not all of the working sectors whether they’re public or private, the English language is used as a term of communication between different departments. Furthermore, in Egypt, the language is being used between two subsidiaries in different countries that are owned by a multinational company as the official means of communication. It is even used between Egyptians in official work mail between colleagues and the Arabic language isn’t used at all, that is a personal experience of mine. In our everyday lives, most letters on all of our computers or laptops have the English letters on it by default, most of the apps that we use on our mobile phones are all in English by default, and most of the global brands whether they are English or from another country use the English letter as their brand name and slogans. For example, Aegean airlines are a renowned Greek airline company, yet their logo and branding is written in English letters without the use of the Greek letters. In Egypt for instance, Egypt Air is one of the most successful airline companies around the world and yet, all their branding is in English, which emphasizes the importance of English as a global language in terms of the usages of its letters and terms around the world. On a smaller and a simpler scale, when anyone travels from their native country to another, whether it is to a Scandinavian European country, a country in North Africa, a country in Asia, or even south America, when we ask for directions or speak to a native of the country, the first thing that comes to our mind is to use the English language as our first mean of communication. Moreover, global superstars from different countries, industries, and backgrounds all use the English language when attending a ceremony, or meeting their fans or even speaking normally in their daily lives if they live in a foreign country, which again stresses the importance of the English language globally. To conclude, in my opinion as an aspiring teacher, the English language should be taught at a young age starting from grade school all the way up till high school, as it will have a massive effect on the children’s lives when they grow up, this will also help them in their jobs in the future and will give them an edge to be selected for a certain job ahead of a monolingual candidate, and finally it will help them in every aspect of their lives.
