The system and structure or past and present tenses are similar. The past tenses relate to past time periods. Note: Irregular verbs differ from the +ed/d form that regular verbs have. Past tenses and forms: 1)Past simple (Affirmative: verb +ed/d) (Negative: did not / didn’t + verb) (Question: did + verb) 2) Past continuous (Affirmative: S + was/were + verb+ing) (Negative: S+was/were + not + verb+ing) (Question: was/were + subject + verb+ing) 3) Past perfect (Affirmative: S + had + past participle) (Negative: S + had + not + past participle) (Question: had + subject + past participle) 4) Past perfect continuous (Affirmative: S + had + been + verb+ing) (Negative: S + had + not + been + verb+ing) (Question: had + subject + been + verb+ing)
