Although the different forms of past tense can be intimidating for a beginner, especially from a language background without similar categories, the usage of the three forms can be clearly differentiated by context. If students have sufficient amount of examples with very clear context, it should be easy for them to grasp the difference between the three forms, and to be able to use them correctly.
