There are several methodologies that can be used teaching EFL. There’s no way to say which one is the best since that is highly correlated with several factors, such as teacher’s personality, student’s culture and needs. The Presentation, Practice and Production (PPP) method consists of: presentation of the new language is made by the teacher, practice will then make the student more comfortable to use the language and then production where the student becomes a "user" of the language. PPP approach to Language Teaching is really effective at lower stages but not so efficient for higher levels. It is also a very rigid method that often ends up being too centered on the teacher’s figure minimizing students input. The Engage, Study and Activate (ESA) method however is more appropriate for trainee and new teachers since allows more flexibility between its stages. Engage stage involves elicitation techniques that draw the student’s interest. Study period will be focused on language and its construction. Activate is the phase where the students will use all their language knowledge and use it as communicatively as they can. An ESA lesson should always start with an engage stage and finish with an activate one. In between, there are several orders that can be used depending on the content of the lesson and the level of the class. Also very important is the feedback students get from the teacher, that should always be done on a positive point of view.
