unit 3 this unit gives a brief overview and explanation of some of the different theories on how to teach English. It then presents methods such as the "Engage/Study/Activate" for delivering lessons. Along with showing the variety of ways the ESA can be utilized in its many forms either as a straight arrow format or in patchwork or boomerang formats. The unit also goes into further detail as to how each section should be delivered, with an emphasize on getting the students to express themselves more openly and speak more English during the Engage stage. The Study stage is then used for more language refinement and studying that days lesson specific subject be it words/phrases/sounds. After which the activate stage is used for practice of these new words/phrases/sounds so as to more comfortably add them to the list of commonly used vocabulary the students are hopefully building in their repertoire. There are examples of useful games that can be played during the Engage stage to get the students more comfortable with speaking English, also an outline of activities for use during the Study stage are provided, such as word scrambles and language drills, reading dialogues and analyzing them. for the Activate stage such things a role-playing or communication games are mentioned as useful, it is worth note that during the Activate stage that students should be encouraged to try and use both the words and terms they had just learned and the ones that they had already learned prior as to become more comfortable with the language. feedback is also mentioned and of particular note as it allows both the teacher and the students to understand what progress has been made and what types of things may need further improving upon. feedback should always be positive with consideration given to how the student can improve, negative feedback is best avoided as it only reinforces a lack of desire to share and be more open with opinions.
