The poignant message from this unit was that most students learn from exposure. Whilst many people learn their first language (L1) by growing up with a trial and error method, learning a second language (L2) is much more difficult. This unit has allowed me to explore various methods and techniques that are beneficial for structuring lessons in TEFL. The most basic, but essential, method is the ESA structure, however this can be modified to various patchwork and boomerang lessons. It is essential to keep in mind the students competency level and culture when designing lesson plans. It is also important to be flexible with lesson plans to keep students engaged.
