Why Complete a tefl course? (8) Learning a new language has always been a difficult process for adults and children alike. One must have motivation, discipline, a thirst for knowledge, and many other characteristics to fully grasp the benefits of becoming familiar with something that was once unfamiliar. However, in order for students to achieve that rewarding learning experience, they must have been exposed to a teacher that has similar qualities and goals as they do. Students look forward to being taught by an instructor who is full of enthusiasm, motivation, someone who puts the students' interests before his or herself—students need a teacher who can be supportive and encouraging even when they lack the confidence to strive for success. Students need a role model. Hence, they need a teacher who has the skills and experience to successfully teach them and tefl has that to offer. A tefl course opens up many possibilities for those seeking the fulfillment of becoming an educator. Not only does completion of a tefl course certify one to teach english, it creates successful, motivating teachers that students need. My learning experiences through completion of a tefl course have provided me with the necessary tools and techniques to become a successful english teacher. When I moved to Berlin, Germany, I knew it was going to be difficult finding job opportunities where I can make a difference. I was fresh out of college, my professional experiences were limited, and my German language skills were not strong enough to seek out opportunities that required advanced fluency in German. Through careful research of what Berlin needed most, I discovered that the city was full of english language schools and bilingual schools that desperately needed english teachers, preferably native speakers. This newfound career path led me to enroll in a tefl course because although I am a native english speaker, I lacked the skills and knowledge of what it meant to be a teacher. Not only does completion of a tefl course allows me to be officially recognized an english teacher, the course has taught me how to teach and what to teach, how to teach certain groups of people from all backgrounds, levels, and etc., overall, the course has taught me everything that I needed to know to become a successful english teacher. The tefl course has taught me the true values of what it means to become an english teacher—it is not simply “just a job,” it is a chance to make a difference. Completion of this tefl course has widened my future possibilities. I have already considered all of the things that I can achieve—all the places I can travel to and possibly teach english. I no longer have limitations on where I can live because of lack of opportunities. tefl has given me the prospects to be successful outside of America and outside of Germany. I look forward to utilizing my new skills by teaching english to others around the globe.
