When I signed up for this class, I'm sure I was just like most people. I thought it would be quick and easy. Boy, was I wrong! But I am very glad I was wrong! This class turned out to be very challenging, yet very thorough and rewarding. To use the cliché, you don't know what you don't know, is exactly what I found out taking this course. I had no idea there was so much material to learn. At the end of one of the units it states that we have just scratched the surface of material for teaching english. You would need to study grammar alone for four years to fully understand it, not including all of the other aspects of tefl! This class has opened my eyes to how important it is for me to continue with taking classes on how to be a better tefl teacher.
This class has taught me all about the different types of learners, teaching techniques, classroom management skills, grammar lessons, pronunciation, and receptive and productive skills just to name a few. It has showed me the importance of a well –thought out lesson plan, and how to properly test the students.
Currently, I feel that with this course to use as a reference (with ALL of the wonderful reference sites it has also given me), I will be confident the next time I am teaching esl.
I will soon take the CTBE class, and will most likely continue to take classes with ITTT because the structure, information, and thoroughness were so well done with this class. I will try to utilize everything I have learned and strive to be a better teacher. This course has given me the tools to start from scratch with a class and cover every aspect that is necessary, i.e. first day, placement, warm-ups, icebreakers, lesson plans (ESA, Boomerang, Patchwork), testing, groups, individuals, special groups, etc. With careful planning and assertiveness, I will use this course and the newly acquired knowledge to teach as many kids english as I can.
