This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the receptive skills necessary for learning and using a language. The module covered why learners require receptive skills and a range of different methods to support teaching them as well as highlighting potential problems students may encounter. This unit prompted me to reflect on the use of receptive skills which I believe I had perhaps not given enough consideration to. Often the focus is on delivering productive skills content so learners can use the language but in order to truly use it both receptive and productive skills are required – the value of learning a language is significantly diminished if the learner can only recite taught phrases rather than engage in meaningful dialogue. I will use this to inform my practice accordingly.
