This unit covered the productive skills of language learning. It emphasised the underplayed role that writing often experiences as part of language learning. This prompted me to consider my own situation where my japanese learning has focussed primarily on skills other than writing. This means that whilst I can function in a day to day manner I often struggle when it comes to dealing with bureaucratic matters and my understanding of the language looks less than it is because my writing skills are so underdeveloped by comparison to other elements. It is therefore important I consider this when planning for other learning to ensure they have the full suite of skills necessary to reflect the level of learning they have achieved.
