I felt this lesson gave me permission as a teacher to set aside the course book and utilize more created materials. I prefer using my own created materials (or resources I have found and collected) but always feel safer using the course books provided. I think I need to trust myself and perception of my students' needs and interests. This unit raised a good point that the topics covered in a course book are often quite broad but do not always have the depth we might desire. How could they? That is what I want to be more aware of in my planning; when to go deeper into a topic and what materials best support that need.
