The content provided me with good information on the three elements in teaching a new language. The vocabulary and grammar elements appear to be more like the building blocks that support the functions element. I believe that a strong foundation in vocabulary and grammar will lead the student to naturally apply their knowledge with the functions element. It almost follows the ESA model: vocabulary and grammar are the STUDY part; and functions is the ACTIVATE part.
