This unit took me by surprise. I have never encountered the Phonemic alphabet and I was horrified initially until I was able to download a Phonemic chart and make sense of it. I can now see that using Phonems is a useful way to assist students with pronunciation of the english language. I am also delighted to be acquainted with this language form and could spend a lot of time learning more about it. I did study elocution as a child and this reminds me of the learning then and subsequent participation in poetry reciting. The knowledge of the parts of the mouth and tongue used in various parts of speech are definitely useful and almost a forgotten art in some areas of life.
