This unit discussed a number of topics. First it made some useful observations and suggestions about starting a new class. This is a daunting prospect so I found it comforting to learn some tricks (e.g. using 'warmers') for getting through the first lesson. The unit also discussed some of the techniques for dealing with classes that have students with a range of skill levels; techniques for dealing with large classes; students who lapse into their native language; reluctant students and; students who struggle with listening exercises. Of these I found the section on reluctant students the most helpful: I have taught before and I know first hand how important it is for the students to participate.
