Taking this course isn't exactly what I expected, but that's in a good way. Although I did need to review the grammar points along with the proper explanations that go with them, teaching them is a whole different story.
Learning to teach students of different ages, levels, and backgrounds takes a good deal of preparation. When teaching, there is really no substitute for experience. However, you have to start somewhere, so the information and lesson planning presented in this course shares vital experience that will help new teachers, like myself to get off to a good start.
Studying this course has allowed me to acquire a bit of confidence and many of the tools needed to present the english language to a variety of students. I plan to try to present the study of the language in a fun and useful way, in order to make learning enjoyable and beneficial to everyone. I hope to instil confidence in the student's ability to communicate in english, even if their abilities are not as good as they would like them to be. Just as a teacher is always learning new and better ways to present lessons, speaking a language should also be a constant state of learning and practice.
So, the result is that I will take my armful of lessons, toys, and games and begin to meet with my new students. Whether the days go well, or they seem to be long, it will be quite an experience.
