This was the first real unit of content that is pivotal to the children being able to learn and comprehend English. The present, past simple, and past participle tenses make up basically all of our tenses in conversations other than the future tense. Their comprehension of the different parts of a sentence will also determine their success in being able to understand the English language. Most interesting to me is that I Haven't seen English sentences parsed like this since elementary school, so it was a really great summary/fresher for myself. After freshman year of college I never actually have take any english classes that focus on grammar and writing, so I actually did learn some new terms for the different parts of a sentence that I will need to continue to study so that I may memorize them. One of the major issues I see teaching English to children is that there are so many exceptions to our rules of grammar that it requires a significant amount of memorization. Depending on the age of the children though this may not be a option, or a very slow one at least. So one of my major concerns going into a classroom is knowing the age of the children which will change the difficulty and the content of the material I'll be teaching. I am also interested in how much children will actually learn in a year of teaching and if what I teach them will actually stick with them in a year or two from now, or if they will just forget it as soon as they learn it!
