Unit #2 covered how an English sentence is constructed and how the various parts of speech can be categorized and identified. Every native English speaker knows how to use these parts of speech but knowing how to identify them is essential to teaching English as a second language. It was helpful, for example, to have the order of adjectives spelled out, as well as the different kinds of adverbs and their proper position in a sentence. Knowing this, a teacher correcting a student can explain why a sentence is wrong, not just that it is wrong.
