Wrong! While a degree is necessary to secure a work visa in some countries, there are plenty of countries where it’s not necessary to possess a degree. If you are a native English speaker and have a TEFL certificate, you still have a lot of options on where to teach even without a degree. South American countries like Argentina, Ecuador or Peru, as well as places in Asia like Cambodia or Russia, are perfect to teach English without a degree.... [Read more]

A TEFL course, otherwise known as “Teaching English as a Foreign Language,” is an essential educational component for any foreign language educator who wishes to teach English in their own country or to non-native students living abroad (“What’s the Difference Between CELTA and TEFL?” 2019). To be certified to teach English as a foreign language, a language educator possess at least a TEFL or TESOL certification, with a degree of practical, in-class teaching experience. The most prestigious TEFL courses, such as CELTA (Cambridge English Teaching Language Assessment), are accredited, which means their curriculum has been reviewed and accepted by international committees to ensure that they meet local,... At its core, the same teaching principles and skills must be required and initiated for teaching one student or a group of 30 students. However, the key difference is time. An academic hour is 50 minutes, take 5 minutes to warm up and five minutes cool down, and this leaves 40 minutes for a class of 30 students. If one was to speak directly with every student, this equates to 1.33 minutes per student. Obviously, it would be pointless to do this, as not alone would each student get such little time as not to be of benefit. With one to the one, you get to spend the full 50 minutes with one student. Learning a language, be it a person’s native language or a second language, it takes time and practice.

As a native Russian speaker I was worried about pronunciation from the very beginning of my English studies in primary school. It so happened that in my family my grandmother was an English teacher in high school who had worked in this position for more than 50 years. Naturally, I began my acquaintance with English much earlier than most of my peers. And the first step in the work of my grandmother in teaching me a foreign language was the formulation of pronunciation, something that most Russians have problems with.
