Prachi and Morgan from AlienEating Destinations Alumni Experiences Teaching. It's frustrating, exhausting, and a whole lot of kid wrangling. It's also rewarding, eye-opening and will give you more patience than you ever thought possible. I had no idea how much went into this job. One day when I'm in Forbes 30 Under 30, I'm going to personally send a tower of Ferrero Rocher to every teacher in the world. This job is a huge responsibility and it's more difficult than I ever imagined. I urge everyone to dip a toe into the teaching world at least once. I've taught English in South Korea for two years now in both the open countryside and bustling city. It may not seem like there's too much of a difference, but there are a few things...  [Read more]

Elizaveta Pachina Alumni Experiences Nowadays the ESA method is used all over the world to teach English. ESA is the first letters of the phases of an English language lesson. These three elements are; Engage, Study and Activate. The classic method only included study phase. It wasn’t important to teach how to speak the foreign language in the past. However, it is a big issue now. It is hard to improve speaking skills in a country where English isn’t the first language as the students aren’t surrounded by English and don’t have the opportunity to practice realistic situations. This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Safak İ. Although it isn’t advised to use authentic materials for beginners, it is good to use them for...  [Read more]

⏩ Tefl reviews - Productive Receptive Skills/speaking Activities - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT

So speaking activities will come in many different forms but we can generalize them into three basic types. Control activities tend to be used in the study phase and here, the teacher will be helping the students in terms of what they need to say and how they go about saying it. So, there's a high level of structure within a controlled activity. A guided activity has slightly less structure than this and it can be used in either the study or the activate stages themselves. The final type of activity or class of activity is called creative activity and this one would be used in the activation phase. In a creative activity, we're giving a scenario or a very small amount of structure and we're asking the students to actually create their own answers to this particular question....  [Read more]

Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas Most lucky people have had one or two teachers who inspired them to be better in both their educational careers and in their personal lives. Depending on the number of students a school has any teacher has the opportunity to be that “special teacher” for a student because every student is different, so teachers should always be looking for new ways to motivate their students. This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Sean M. Please note that this blog post might not necessarily represent the beliefs or opinions of ITTT. Motivation in the classroom is integral to a student’s success in their educational career. If a student is not motivated to achieve their goals then they will not apply...  [Read more]

Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas Assuming it has already been understood generally, I do not intend to elaborate on the reasons between Myanmar and Burma, even though it still remains unknown to many. In this essay, I will be using ‘Burmese’ or ‘Burmese language’ to refer to the language and ‘Myanmar’ for the country. Language acquisition can understandably present several challenges ranging from alphabets, accent, construction styles, pronunciation, etc. Depending on several factors, different language speakers will have different challenges. While one part is no less difficult than another, I reckon, in Myanmar, there is one component that most learners seem to have similar difficulty in taking up the English language –...  [Read more]

Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas The purpose of education is not to raise test scores, but rather to prepare our young ones to be successful in life. It starts from the home where parents are considered as the steering wheel of the vehicle of learning in providing guidance, monitoring, support and setting goals for their children and fostering the achievement of these goals. This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Abdulrahman D. Please note that this blog post might not necessarily represent the beliefs or opinions of ITTT. The parents are the first teachers of the child’s daily routine and its surrounding, the child learns how to chant, sing or play rhythmic language games from the parents as early efforts to educate them are...  [Read more]

Nadiia Dovbnia Destinations Alumni Experiences I have been working in China as an English teacher almost for half a year. When the outbreak began, I decided to stay in China. At first, I thought it would be like a seasonal flu quarantine back in my country, Ukraine, when schools are closed for just a week or two. However, the situation got worse and I realized that it might be safer to stay inside my city than to go through the train stations and airports. Shops gave no signs of opening after the New Year, busses were just passing by the stops on their way to the bus park, communities were closed for the non-residents, in one day you got more temperature checks that in a few months. Every movement has been noted down from the...  [Read more]
