We looked at the normal patterns of intonation in statements and how they can be interpreted. The rise/fall intonation is the most common and the statement begins to fall once you indicate that you have finished what you want to say. The fall/rise pattern indicates surprise or disagreement and usually the speaker wants some sort of response to the statement. A flat statement represents an unwelcoming tone.
