In unit 5 we learned about methods for classroom management and what role a teacher and the students should play in the classroom. We looked at physical management of the classroom in the form of seating arrangement (rows, horseshoe/circle, separate tables, etc.), as well as non-verbal and verbal cues. We discussed what type of gestures a teacher should make, how they should call student names, and what type of attention or monitoring is best for certain activities. I found the part about giving instructions and dealing with behavioral problems to be the most helpful. I think teachers fear they will have unruly students, so this lesson provided some great tips on how to best manage difficult students.
