A classroom that is effective and professional is managed and directed by the teacher. Without effective management skills, the class turns into a chaotic mess. With chaos, there is no right or effective way for students to learn. There are several strategies that we can use to maintain and direct active learning. Some of the skills are as simple as eye contact, arranging the room to as complicated as planning and directing several activities. We do want to avoid monotony in the class and engagement of all students is the ultimate goal. To get students engaged, we must have a level of rapport and respect. Respect and rapport must be for both the student as well as the teacher. We can't expect a student to respect us if we don't respect them.
