The unit covered the 4 main learning theories, how young learners acquire L2 and what methods should be used by teachers to efficiently stimulate the children. The main learning theories are the following: maturation, behaviorism, constructivism and other. When it comes to L1, people learn it when they are children through assimilation, through trying and seeing what works or not. When learning a new language it is best to come as close as we can to the methods used when we learned L1. The unit also took a look at 2 age groups, 5-9 and 9-13 year old children. While the activities used for the first group should be short, interactive, based on singing and dancing, the second group requires a different approach: longer activities, with less physical focus and more abstract concepts.
