In unit 2 on the topic of teaching and learning there are theories about learning and development, from infancy to full maturation. There are four major groups that emerge when looking at learning and behavior theories. These groups are constructivist, maturationists, environmentalists and other. In maturation theory there is a natural sequence of events that will take place, regardless of any other stimuli. Environmental theory is a behavior based upon a reaction to environment. Constructivism may be considered a combination, or fusion of the previous two ideas. Last, other being an outline further camp of cognitive development. The learning environment is just as important as the theories in forming the proper success in a student's academic career. Certain arrangements of the class and resources will give an additional benefit or disadvantage depending on the lesson, time frame and age of the class. Diving the class into circular rows, semi-circle, groups and standard rows will allow students to have a specific amount of exposure to both board work and group interaction. The teacher's role is more broad depending on the needs of the class. The instructor role is to provide certain body of knowledge. The facilitator role is to provide an ample learning environment and seating arrangements. The mentor role is the definition of a classic role model. The psychologist role is to provide students certain care with personal or home problems. The counselor role is to give help and advice. Last, the policeman role is to establish order and maintain crowd control. Overall, this unit was very interesting and gives the basics around establishing a good rapport with students from five to nine years old and from nine to thirteen. Their likes and dislikes, the shift in approach when teaching these age groups and how the students see the teacher during lessons and activities.
