Unit three deals with course development, essentially a "how to" overview on creating an effective course tailored to the needs, abilities and purposes of the student group. Ideally, level testing and a needs analysis will provide appropriate student grouping at the outset. Syllabus design, even adjusted for limiting factors, can take a variety of forms depending on one's learning theory orientation, but a practical step-by-step process of how to go about it is included in the unit, along with a useful example. Assessment is then addressed; different types of assessment and their respective purposes are explained, as are the CYLE examinations. The unit concludes with a discussion of course evaluations.
