Teach English in Chihua Zhen - Guangyuan Shi

This unit looks at the various teaching themes that can be used in a classroom. We begin by looking at songs, chants and music and are reminded once again about the differences between younger and older YL learners. we are introduced to TPR or Total Physical Response or language-body conversations. We then move on to the use of games in the classroom and are given examples of how well known games like Monopoly and Pictionary can be adapted for use in the classroom. We then look at stories and how they can be used for all four skills. Whilst looking at arts and crafts we are directed to look at Howard Garner's theory on multiple intelligences, of which there are eight. we look at how we can make use of seasons and holidays that are applicable in the various countries, and then discuss drama and movement, again distinguishing between younger and older learners. Finally, we are shown how to put this all together in the development of plans for various age groups.
