There are so many things we can do in the class during teaching English: sing songs, play games, tell stories, do art work. Songs, music and chants are very effective for young learners. Songs provide opporunity for listening, reading and creative writing. Better combine them with actions. Games also can be adapted for classroom use. It's a good way to start the lesson. Games like hangman, monopoly, battleship and others can be used. Tell stories is also a good way to build vocabulary. It can be used with any level and age group, they are motivating, can help to develop all four skills. As with songs stories can be used for drilling, as gap fill activities and some of them can show tense structures. For older learners stories can be extended to another activities like discussion, book review, creating art work. Arts and crafts also is a good technique to accelerate learning by using activities which stimulate both sides of the brain simultaneously. All four skills can be addressed during doing some art or craft work. Seasons and holidays can provide a great impetus for language learning situations (Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Valentine's Day and others). Teaching ideas: creating art work, reading about festival, writing, listening. Drama and movement can help the students learning process by making the contex more realistic. For younger students drama is an excellent warmer activity.
