This unit included a lot of helpful links on every topic! The topics were related to kinds of creative, fun activities to do with classes of young learners. First there was songs, chants, and music, which emphasized learning through physical movement. Then the unit addressed using games for teaching. Next, the unit talked about using stories. Like songs, stories shouldn't be limited to teaching the most obvious skill only. All the kinds of activities in the unit can be used to teach all four skills. The stories unit discussed how stories can be used to teach each skill. Then, there was arts and crafts, followed by seasonal activities and drama/movement. I had not expected things like Simon Says to fall into this category! Finally, the unit spent a great deal of time on how to incorporate creative activities into lessons through lesson planning. Worse than a worksheet that doesn’t make sense, would be a whole game or story or craft project that does not make sense to students or effectively connect to a teaching point – I speak from personal experience.
