In unit six, professional development was discussed. This topic included cultural issues that might be faced when teaching in a foreign country, how to find employment, questions to ask at a job interview as well as points on how to create a good resume. Teachers will have to adjust to a culture different that is very different from their their own so it is important that they do research on the culture and customs of that country before arriving. This will ease their transition into their new life and help them with interacting with their new students and coworkers. Doing prior research can also help teachers to avoid making potentially embarrassing cultural and social blunders. Therefore as highlighted in this unit, I want to be aware of any cultural differences that exist, what the people of that country value and what they see as important because this will play a critical part of my success of in that country. A resume provides the first impression of the potential employee to the employer so it must be written in a way that the employer easily understands what advantages that person can offer the company and if they fit the specific job requirements . Therefore teachers should make sure that their resume includes the criteria necessary for the job however if they do not meet all the required criteria they should avoid dishonesty by writing incorrect information.
