In unit six, professional development in the context of teaching English as a foreign language was covered in detail. From cultural issues to practical steps needed for job hunting, this unit covered professional development from a variety of different angles. The most informative part of this unit for me was the cultural sensitivities portion. I live in Japan as a college student, and when I start teaching I will need to cover my tattoos at all times. This is a vital part of professional development here, and getting tips on other things to research will help me be even more prepared when that time comes.
