I have learnt that there are 4 things that students need to do with new languages. The need to be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how its constructed and be able to practice and produce it. To be able to do this they need to be taught vocabulary , receptive and productive words,. This can be taught using a straight arrow lesson plan. They also need to be introduced to grammatical structures through a patchwork lesson plan. Then lastly they need to be taught language functions using either boomerang or patchwork lesson plan.
