In this unit I learnt how to teach new language, grammar and functions. I learnt that students need to be exposed to new language, to understand its meaning, to understand how it is constructed and to be able to practice and reproduce it. I also learnt how to use the ESA method to teach new language, grammar and functions and which activities were appropriate to each of these different stages. It was useful to see how vocabulary and grammar are best taught using the straight line method whereas structure could be taught using both the boomerang and patchwork methods. I learnt the general principles for selecting appropriate language to teach students. I also learnt which activites and techniques should be used within each stage of ESA.
