When designing a lesson, it is most important to know how practically relevant the new language is, as well as the ability of the students to learn it. For example, teaching Shakespeare or other language not in common usage might be interesting, but it is difficult and has little to no relevance to the students, and so shouldn't be taught. Once Students have a grasp on the meaning, usage, and patterns of language, they should be given scenarios to practice using new language in as natural a way as possible. Ideally, differences between written and spoken forms should also be addressed. In my personal opinion, this is also one of the most important things to address, as first impressions are more often done in person than over text and students are probably most keen to master speaking fluency.
