In this unit, I have systematically acknowledged the past tense. It makes me dwell on how to teach this grammar and how to let learners practice. And also the how to help learners acquire the complex form of past form. Past tense which doesn’t exist in Chinese grammar is always ignored by Chinese learners. Therefore, if past tense can be taught with present and compared with present, it will help learners better understand the tense. Also this unit reveals a lot of practical activities for learners to practice, like narrative stories and discuss past holidays. Only put the learners into the similar situation can they use the grammar accurately and fluently. Another concern of mine is the complicated form of past. Learners are often confused with the past form and past participle. It’s understandable that they sometimes make mistakes. But there is no reason for them to mix the two forms all the time. Therefore, to help learners to acquire the different forms is a must. The methods of teaching different irregular forms of past should be varied and increased to enhance their memory. Drills cannot be avoided. All in all, teacher should take various ways to better teach the tense.
