English grammar rules are wide and varied often containing many exceptions. To teach them well to a student I must be knowledgeable on the rules and exceptions enough to answer any questions that are asked. I learned that while I know many of these grammar rules I need to work on understanding the many categories of each type of word type (i.e. noun, adjective, adverb, gerund etc.).
